Ramdane Touhami : L’Officine Universelle Buly

The historical perfumery of Jean-Vincent Bully - who for example inspired the novel César Birotteau de Balzac - is reborn in 2014 under the name of Buly. A revival of activity that has retained the soul of the old concept, while adding touches more current. Example with the last stall of the firm: The Universal Buly Officine of Tokyo (Japan).

Located in the heart of Daikanyama, the chic district of the Japanese capital, 50's square meter shop is, to say the least, amazing. Literally divided in two by a thin line gold color, it offers two visions of perfumery. The first part, designed by the designers of the brand, is a replica of French apothecary nineteenth century. Glazed solid wood cabinets and marble countertops rest on a graphic tile mixing turquoise, ivory and fine golden details, overhung by a dark ceiling, also in wood.

This area is juxtaposed with a more contemporary interpretation of perfumeries, this time imagined by Japanese designers affiliated to Buly. The Balzac decor is complemented by a sleek interior, inspired by the work of Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Here, there is no question of cluttering the space with heavy furniture! One word of order: minimalism. On a polished concrete floor, a raw cement countertop is adorned with multiple glazed cupboards displaying the brand's beauty products, and overhung with alcoves with bluish tones partially illuminated and decorated with various varieties of dried flowers.

"We want to be a destination. A foot in the past and a foot in the future. " Ramdane Touhami, owner of L'Officine Universelle Buly

With this bipolar shop, Ramdane Touhami symbolizes the meeting of East and West, as well as that of French and Japanese cultures that balance with refinement.
