SYN Architects : Siège social de MaFengWo

In Beijing, China, the Chinese agency SYN Architects is transforming a kinescope factory - ancestors of video recorders - from the 1980 years into offices for the headquarters of the MaFengWo tourism website. While contractors retain much of the original structure and materials, the interior space of 5 024 square meters of floor area is completely redesigned to meet the needs of the business.

From the old factory, there remains today only the primary structure of concrete left raw and supplemented by a metal frame posts / beams forming new trays. The old facades have been largely open to the outside to bring natural light into the massif together, extended in the upper part by three cantilevered terraces overlooking the forecourt. The original redwood roof was completely destroyed to make way for an accessible flat roof, with hexagonal honeycomb openings creating a zenith skylight around which are organized the three levels of the building.

Below this, a large wooden staircase crosses and connects the floors, from the basement containing gym and cafeteria to the attic, by the reception located at the first level and above it the offices. This large circulation area is also used as meeting space for employees who can take their place on the stands developed by the different walks.

A spacious environment that looks like a hive on a human scale!
