FREAKS architectes : La Tournette

Increasingly recognized for his singular and optimized projects, the trio of the agency FREAKS architectes develop in 2018 the Tournette, a studio organized around a movable and modular central volume. A discreet innovation whose effectiveness is based on the combination of multiple and illusion.

Paris, the 13e borough. It is here that a couple of retired architects have an artist's studio, opened on the street by a glass roof characteristic of this typology. In 2018, the duo - who resides most often in the countryside - decides to convert the 30 square meters of volume into Parisian pied-à-terre. Here, they would like to live comfortably and be able to invite friends for dinner. Finally, they would like to have enough free space to exercise the various activities induced by the beating of their dynamic life; a challenge in such a small studio.

Choosing to make the younger generation work rather than cogitate themselves, the owners call upon Yves Pasquet, Cyril Gauthier and Guillaume Aubry from the FREAKS agency, who work out a solution to optimize this very limited space. Taking advantage of the high ceilings, designers develop a mezzanine bedroom under which are installed the water features, including the kitchen open to the rest of the studio. An effective way to reject the most functional spaces at the bottom of the volume, thus saving a maximum surface for the stay.

Here, Yves Pasquet, Cyril Gauthier and Guillaume Aubry imagine a modular piece thanks to the idea of spinette - name given to the turntable of plays or opera that allows to quickly change the scenography - blown by their client! Reinterpreting this rotating element to give it a domestic use, the trio thus conceives an immaculate monolithic block whose shape is reminiscent of a motorway terminal. Very light, the structure is easily moved by the inhabitants to partition the space according to their needs, and can even serve as a dining table with a retractable panel. Painted in white, like the rest of the apartment, it blends perfectly into this living decor ...

Cunning, singular and flexible: no doubt, this project is indeed signed FREAKS architects.
