Studio Briand & Berthereau : ICI Librairie

Last October, Studio Briand & Berthereau delivered the renovation of a room located in the 2e Paris borough that once housed a clothing store. An intervention whose stakes far exceeded the architectural question, since the place now serves as a haven for an endangered species: an independent bookstore.

It is clear that today, it is increasingly difficult for gourmands literature to find addresses for them to get books to devour. Independent booksellers are slowly closing their doors, unable to cope with the colossal competition of big brands. So obviously, the opening of a new bookstore deserves that we are interested! Especially when it spreads over 500 square meters spread over two floors in the heart of the capital.

Called HERE by its owners Anne-Laure Vial and Delphine Bouétard, such a boutique had to offer an exceptional setting. Exceptional, but not ostentatious. A mission entrusted to the architects of Studio Briand & Berthereau.

Responding to the demand of their customers to design a soothing place, conducive to meeting and discussion, they have proposed a comprehensive work, ranging from interior architecture to layout through the signage. On the ground floor, custom-made wooden shelves are organized around a café area - called Custom - set up as a Quechua tent for Dutch safari tourists. The second level, in the basement, serves as a Swiss army knife, housing an exhibition space, a corner dedicated to children and a space Agora. Here again, the architects favored a minimalist aesthetic, particularly reinforced by the ceramic floor, whose layout is reminiscent of a broken wooden floor.

In short, ICI is not just a shop; it is an experience that is both sensory and imaginative, punctuated by the smell of the pages of the new books and the image of the customers by dipping a biscuit in a cup of cappuccino.
