Ater Architects : Doctor U

Remember, small, long minutes in the sanitized waiting rooms of doctors to try to amuse you with broken toys or to decipher magazines that are out of time for you to examine. A memory shared by many of us that encourages Ater Architects' teams to design Doctor U, a colorful and warm pediatric clinic, that almost annihilates children's apprehension about consultations.

Located in a residential area of Kiev (Ukraine), the small medical facility of 38 square meters includes a reception and waiting area as well as two pediatric examination rooms with colored coverings. The patient enters this set with lively tones via a bay window and accesses the reception desk - whose visual identity transforms the name of the clinic into a smile - and then sits on a comfortable velvet bench designed to receive to two people maximum. This part, located west of the project, then serves the two cabinets whose coverings combine wood and terrazzo, all declined in blue, red or white.

"Our main mission was to create an atypical atmosphere for a medical institution that does not leave negative memories for children and does not schedule them to worry about going to see a doctor. " Alexander Ivasiv, architect

Medical equipment and devices are concealed in storage spaces so that young patients do not become anxious, creating an intimate and pleasant atmosphere far from the usual examination rooms. These include countertops and wash basins with terrazzo splashbacks, animated cartoons, therapy tables and doctors' desks.

A warm and reassuring project that would almost want to update its vaccines!
