Torafu Architects : Aesop

Definitely, the shops of Australian cosmetics brand Aesop are real playgrounds for architects! After having left it to the Norwegian agency Snøhetta to draw their stall in the Chelsea neighborhood (United Kingdom), the firm entrusts the design of its new store in Tokyo (Japan) to local architects: Torafu Architects. The result is a set that reflects the neighborhood of Shibuya where it sits, between old and contemporary.

Located on the first floor of a building on Meiji Avenue, the 85 square meters complex attracts the curious with a rounded 7 facade, high in zinc, which resembles the entrance of the neighboring building. . A clever way of integrating into a built urban landscape while affirming its identity. Aesop, beyond a brand of skincare, is also a sense of aesthetics marked, declined according to the locations of the many shops around the world.

A taste for coquetry that one finds without difficulty in the development of their new pharmacy of Shibuya district, in Tokyo. Inspired by the heritage of this part of the capital in full change, the project management imagines a realization where vernacular architecture, local materials and contemporary furniture agree harmoniously. The old space in which is installed the shop was completely hollow, the designers keeping only the skeleton in concrete, here left visible, and the ground, also in raw concrete, simply covered with a carpet of cashmere.

The arrangement is then organized around a large central steel sink around which display chestnut wood - entirely produced in Japan - offer customers to choose their products in the most sober. This item of furniture is then transformed into a payment counter. A second water point, smaller, is partially surrounded by a bench made from the same material.

A simple and refined project that fits in the history of the brand as in that of the district of Shibuya.
