Camille Walala : Salt of Palmar

The time is for booking air tickets and buying sunscreen. And what more exotic destination than Mauritius to spend his summer vacation? If you do not know where to stay on the archipelago, why not Palmar Salt, a colorful hotel by Camille Walala that rhymes Indian Ocean and Italian Memphis group.

Built in 2005, the riad style building takes place on the east coast of the island. Consisting of 59 suites, a restaurant and a spa, the place of residence is characterized by a strong identity, both graphic and colorful, fruit of a carte blanche entrusted to the French multidisciplinary artist, Camille Walala.
The mission entrusted to the designer was not simple: incorporate elements from a purely Mauritian aesthetic while creating a contemporary and timeless place. A challenge? Certainly not for Walala who, in collaboration with the artistic director Julia Jomaa, succeeds without difficulty in marrying her own pop style with the wide palette that one finds in the landscapes of Mauritius.

"I was blown away by the number of bright, bold colors around the island. Emerald green plants with changing colors of the sky, I wanted to marry these warm and natural tones to my iconic colors. " Camille Walala, designer

Originally color clay, the exterior of the building is now adorned with a softer fishing tone, referring to the Mauritian vernacular architecture. Echoing the environment, outdoor furniture is declined in cobalt blue or turquoise as a nod to the variations of nuances of the Indian Ocean. Characteristic of his work, the black and white stripes punctuate the interiors, alternating between horizontal and vertical layout. The reception areas are decidedly the most vibrant, combining pink flat areas with yellow coatings and equally bright furniture.
A daring mix of colors that fades in the restaurant where the designer focuses on a more sober environment with natural tones. For this space, it uses local craftsmen who realize for example geometric screens and rattan circular suspensions.

A little piece of paradise, Salt Palmar promises an electric holiday!
