LIVING-UP : Haussmann Kefalonia

In Paris, the architects of LIVING-UP transformed a Haussmannian apartment in the 17th arrondissement into a colorful and bright duplex adapted to the contemporary lifestyle of the new owners.

To remedy the dilapidation and outdated layout of a 165 square meter Haussmannian apartment, the architects of LIVING-UP have completely redesigned its spatial organization to transform it into a comfortable, functional and contemporary duplex. However, the renovation operation had its share of difficulties, between the adjoining rooms, the winding corridors, the poorly installed doors and the many moldings.

The architects focused their attention on the new layout of circulation in order to make the routes more fluid, reveal the existing and create an apartment adapted to the daily life of the owners. At the entrance, a large piece of furniture forms the heart of the accommodation. It brings together, under a wooden skeleton cladding, a whole series of functions: dressing room, sanitary facilities, storage, kitchen, dining room, etc. This centerpiece takes us under the roofs, creates the unity of the apartment and filters the views over the inner courtyard.

Upstairs, the structural elements further freeze the distribution of the rooms. A bathroom was born from the optimization of an access corridor to the maid's rooms, while a small living room is fitted out under a sloping roof. At the top of the stairs, the extended landing is now a dance hall.

In the end, the LIVING-UP teams created a very personal colorful apartment by playing with volumes and contrasts.
