The architects Joan Arnau and Carme Muňoz of the Spanish agency 05AM arquitectura took up the challenge of fitting out the interior of an old Parisian apartment of 172 square meters in the 16th arrondissement. Successful bet !
With this renovation and interior design project, the 05AM arquitectura studio signs an original creation in a spirit that is at once minimalist, bright and intimate. The complexity of the renovation lies in the reversal of the original organization.
Before the work, the apartment was spread over two levels: the double height main rooms led to a terrace. The attic on the slope was just storage space. Since its modernization, this penthouse has been completely redesigned, from the layout to the decoration through the restructuring.
The rehabilitation of the apartment is to remove the double height and the attic to create upstairs a bright room giving access to the terrace. This allowed to converse the volumetry of the place while revealing the structure of the roof, its frames and its wooden purlins.
The wooden plank staircase is the central element around which the place is organized. By going beyond its primary functional function, it also becomes a storage unit, a drain and a seat. Thus it creates the unity and spatiality of the whole.
A stunning apartment!
