Une barrière entre réel et virtuel

In New York, the heart of Manhattan, very real barriers site provides access to a virtual world and online information. An extraordinary experience that invites us to rethink our perception of the city and our relationship with our environment.

By a group of architects and multimedia artists in New York led by Carolina Cisneros, Carlos J. Gomez de Llarena et Mateo PintoThe installation "Houston Fence" takes place at the corner of Houston and Broadway in Soho.

For this work, the team used the barriers of the construction next door as a support. On each barrier have been placed small colored elements to create a motif that also decorative permeable meaningful. Indeed, each of these small parts acts as a pixel to form the grids of the reasons a QR code, A kind of barcode 2 dimensions. It is therefore sufficient to take a picture from these patterns with his mobile phone equipped with software capable of decrypting QR codes to go directly to the website of the project team. Note that this QR code can be read at different scales and speeds, the pedestrian, cyclist or motorist.

With "Houston Fence", a real artifact, namely a simple barrier construction, becomes a gateway to a virtual universe. By this method, spending may, in the places he visits, connect to the internet and access in a nod to background information ... The real and the virtual then come into resonance. This experience that flirts with augmented reality invites us to think differently about our physical environment. New career options for architects and designers, to change the perception and enrich the practice that the user can have the city and its built environment, transcending the boundaries of dedicated real and virtual worlds ...
