MAP Architects : Wiroa Station Wine Cellar

On a beach in northern New Zealand, Kerry Mason, Huia Reriti and Simon Eluidge from the New Zealand agency MAP Architects have created this small space dedicated to wine tasting. On the hillside, this concrete platform with the false air of a bunker opens onto the landscape.

On this project, the agency MAP Architects says:

"The building is a single viewing platform, and wine tasting room for the use of residents of a small beach side development in the far north of New Zealand.

Restricted to 25m2 due to local règlements schedule, and set in to the hill side to Reduce the presence on the skyline, this single building forms a calm backdrop to the scenery, Intended to Enhance the enjoyment of the environment, and wine tasting.

Utilising the local vernacular of coastal wartime bunkers, the concrete wine cellar opens into a broad wedge to allow a stunning elevated vista of the Bay of Islands. "
