MIAS ARCHITECTS : Palafolls Bus Stop

You will never have waited for public transport with so much presence! Designed by the Spanish agency MIAS ARCHITECTS, the bus stop Palafolls is a sculptural work far from traditional shelters with advertising of all kinds, halfway between architectural intervention and contemporary installation.

Located between urban and rural areas, the Catalan city of Palafolls depends on a wide network of buses connecting the small town to Barcelona. A pivotal position and a rhythm of life that wanted to improve the local architects of the agency MIAS with a bus stop as useful as original.

A set of windows with wooden frames is randomly distributed on a steel structure made of two beams, as if a hurricane had blown on the area. Different formats, sometimes opaque, sometimes transparent, these skylights allow travelers to wait for their means of transport while taking advantage of the sun's rays or, if need be, to protect themselves from the rain. A clever staging that creates a destructured and functional shelter also wanting to be a meeting place where waiting would not be considered a chore.

In order to wait in the best conditions, users have the opportunity to sit on a clean monolith laid on the ground, adding a mineral touch to the whole.

A simple and effective project that would almost forget our schedule and get on the next bus!
