Stephen Burks : The Traveler

The French publisher Roche Bobois has appealed to the American designer Stephen Burks to illustrate and question the European and American cultural differences. This demand has led to the creation of "The Traveler", a chair structure which comes in two versions that highlight the differences between their two continents.

Based on the same blueprint, that of a generous and light seat, designer Stephen Burks delivered two versions of the chair. The US with its ash wood structure and leather straps refers to the traditional American furniture. Inspired by European design of 50 years, the European declination reveals fine structure in lacquered tubular steel, seat and back in leather or fabric. Two singular creations that highlight cultural differences in design that are either one or the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
