A Lerida en Espagne, l'agence d'architecture hollandaise Mecanoo vient d'achever la construction de ce théâtre et centre de congrès. Un vaisseau de pierre posé dans le paysage montagneux et minéral de la ville.

"Located in the mountainous landscape of Lledia on the banks of the river Segre, this recently completed theatre and congress centre has been designed by Dutch architects Mecanoo.

The Theatre and congress centre of 37,500 m² contains a 1,000 seat theatre hall, two congress halls with 400 and 200 seats, two foyers, the Mercolleida office’s and a retail space of 2,591 m².

The facade of the building has been clad in stone while the interior utilises a pallet of white plastered walls and a hardwood and marble flooring.

Space for parking has been created within the basement levels of the building while a loading area for delivery trucks is provided on the ground floor level.

The building’s horizontal form has allowed the architects to integrate a large roof top garden supporting a range of flora such as roses, jasmine and ivy.

In contrast to the white plaster walls used throughout the majority of the building the theatre is clad in a dark hard wood in which ‘trees of light’ have been inlaid.

A light court in the centre of the building, houses a monumental staircase rising from street level to the multi-functional hall on the first floor.

A ramp leads on to the foyer on the second level where there is a panoramic window looking out across the city and the river. In the foyer are the entrances to the theatre, meeting rooms and a small conference room."
