50 years is something to celebrate! So to celebrate this half-century, the gallery founded in 1972 is organizing a series of three exhibitions in 2022. The first retrospective starts with the spring, 5 quai Malaquais in Paris. An entire program…

For those who do not know it, the Anne-Sophie Duval gallery, specializing in Art Deco and XNUMXth century decorative arts, has been an essential address for collectors and decorators for fifty years.

Thus, to mark its 50th anniversary, this mythical gallery will organize a first retrospective in April 2022, retracing its history, from its beginnings to today.

The exhibition will present prestigious furniture, ceramics and rare pieces in a setting inspired by that designed by Karl Lagerfeld in 1972 for the stand of the first Biennale des Antiquaires. And this is only a foretaste of what awaits visitors, who will find the creations of famous decorators from the 30s such as Jean-Michel Franck, Pierre Chareau and Jean Dunand.

Then in June 2022, the curious will have the opportunity to discover (or rediscover) the works of Ernest Chaplet (1835-1909). Pioneers of Art Nouveau ceramics and famous for his red flamed enamelled stoneware known as “oxblood”, he is also known for having introduced Paul Gauguin to ceramic techniques from 1886 (just that!). It is with him that the painter invents his famous “ceramic sculptures”. After directing the Haviland factory, Chaplet set up his workshop in Paris, then in Choisy-le-Roi.

To close this fiftieth anniversary, the gallery will honor the creations of Vassil Ivanoff (1897-1973). Here, 100 unpublished pieces by the artist (vases, sculptures, etc.) will be presented. Ivanoff's work, rich and varied, oscillates between magnificent glazed stoneware vases reminiscent of the art of a Chaplet and sculpture-vases of Art Deco or primitivist inspiration, passing through free-form pieces evoking the art by Picasso (zoomorphic vase) or even by Henry Moore. Coming from the family of the artist, the works of Vassil Ivanoff for some unpublished will be reproduced in a catalog book.
